Cuddlebark Creek began with a simple idea — that the smallest moments can become the biggest adventures when children are given the freedom to explore, wonder and discover.
Created by Kellie Mac (Kellie Mountney), the series is inspired by life in the Australian bush, the curiosity of children and the extraordinary little moments that happen when you slow down long enough to notice them.
Where Cuddlebark Creek Began
I live in the Australian bush, so there’s always something going on around us. Kangaroos hop across the driveway, kookaburras make sure we’re awake in the morning and every now and then we’re lucky enough to spot a koala tucked away in one of the gum trees.
A lot of Cuddlebark Creek really came from spending time with my grandchildren and watching the way they see the world. Kids notice everything. A footprint in the dirt, a strange noise in the trees, something floating in the creek — suddenly it’s a mystery and we’re off to investigate. Something that might seem very small to an adult can become a whole adventure to a child.
I think that’s one of the loveliest things about childhood, and it’s what I wanted to capture with Cuddlebark Creek.
The stories aren’t about huge, extraordinary events. They’re about the little discoveries, questions, mishaps and adventures that happen along the way — and the friendships, courage, kindness and curiosity that grow out of them.
For me, Cuddlebark Creek is really a celebration of childhood, the Australian bush and that wonderful feeling that there is always something new to discover.
Inspired by place
The landscape, wildlife and changing rhythms of the Australian bush shape the world of Cuddlebark Creek.
Inspired by curiosity
The questions children ask and the things they notice often become the starting point for a story.
Created for connection
Every adventure is designed to celebrate friendship, curiosity and the feeling that everyone has something vauable to contribute.
I’ve always loved stories, but Cuddlebark Creek really came from spending time with my grandchildren and watching the way they explore the world around them. Kids notice things we adults can easily walk straight past.
The mix of childhood curiosity, everyday adventures and life in the bush became the starting point for Cuddlebark Creek.
I wanted to create a warm Australian world where children can laugh, explore, make mistakes, solve little problems and discover that being different from your friends is actually one of the things that makes friendship so interesting.
And somewhere along the way, Cuddlebark Creek became an adventure for me too.
I started this at 54, which has been a pretty wonderful reminder that you’re never too old to begin something completely new.
